Location and nearby infrastructure
The Tegel area, located southwest of Reinickendorf, is famous for Lake Tegel, which is a popular holiday destination. In the northern part is the Humboldt Castle, which is privately owned by descendants. In the adjoining park there is a Dicke Marie, probably the oldest tree in Berlin.
Northwest of Alt Tegel, where little resembles a village past, there is Berlinerstrasse with shops for everyday needs and Borsigwerke — an entertainment mall with cinemas, shops, etc. in the middle of old Berlin brick architecture. The castle-like entrance gate is an architectural monument and is the hallmark of the area.
At the end of 2020, a new pedestrian zone with numerous shops, offices, cafes and restaurants will be built on Gorki Strasse, which will be one of the first renovations of a full-fledged shopping street throughout the country and will be integrated into the Tegel market zone, which has a 100-year history.
Greenwich Promenade embankment with a pier for ships invites you for a walk. Also in close proximity are the Tegeler Hafen and Tegeler Forst recreation areas.
